Home at Last
Last Monday afternoon Karl played some wild Frisbee with his fellow Texans (Ha, he hasn't lived in Texas for 10 years and was born in Utah, but he still calls himself a Texan--Angela). Fearlessly guarding his opponent, he slipped on a patch of rocky dirt and scraped up his leg horribly. It stung like crazy and looked really gross (it still stings and looks really gross), yet Krazy Karl got up without blinking an eye and continued to play. Good thing Angela wasn't there to see it happen. She was already in Orem working.
Karl's long awaited return to Utah took place Tuesday at 3:35 at the Southwest Terminal. It was cloudy and cold (45 degrees) and Karl arrived in shorts. But who would have known that June in Utah would be so cold? Karl and Angela stopped by her parents for some yummy grub. We had some Pad Thai, rice, grapes and a delicious dessert of rice, mangos and coconut juice.
It was great to have Karl back at home. He made dinner every night. Angela did help out though. But what a nice week!!!!
Wednesday, we decided to start running again. Not even the rain could stop our thirst for exercise (we'd like to start shedding the extra pounds we gained last month). Karl spent the day at home working on a long list of tasks and chores he needed to complete.
Karl had an Ultimate Frisbee game on Thursday. It was chilly, but Angela somehow survived. Karl had thought it was too late in the season to officially join the league, but one of the captains went out for the season with an injury, so Karl took his place. It was a valiant effort, but Karl needs another week to get in enough shape to play like a team captain again.
Friday we played a wonderful game of tennis. OK, we weren't that wonderful, but it was fun. I think the people next to us were tired of us hitting balls over to their court. In the end though we were both doing well enough to have a game. It was also nice that someone left a good ball for us to play with. So the key to playing tennis is to have a good tennis ball. We later went on a walk around the Provo river. Karl saw a house with his dream yard, it was connected by a small bridge to its own private island. After getting home we made a smoothie and watched Signs. It scared he bejeebers out of Angela.
Saturday, we had another great "Angela and Karl's day of fun." Karl spent the morning making potato salad and deviled eggs, which turned out great by the way. In the afternoon we did a little shopping at Penney's. Angela looks fabulous in her new shirts. We then put together our picnic dinner and went off on a journey around Utah Lake. It was chilly but fun, green (there's been a very extraordinary amount of rain this year), and very beautiful. We started up north, stopping along the mouth of the Jordan river to take a little stroll. At Saratoga Springs we saw some ridiculously nice homes with beautiful lakeside views. But they were certainly far away from anything else. Where they shop and get gas? The west side of the lake was for the birds. No really, there were a lot of birds. We saw several farms and orchards. There was a very old gas station in Goshen. We stopped to see some horses and a building coming out of the mountain. We guessed it was a mine of some sort. Near the end of our trip, we stopped at Lincoln Beach Park for a yummy picnic—hoagies and the potato salad.
You can see photos of our journey here.
Sunday after church (where Angela came back to find out the she is the only one called to Junior nursery) we went to visit Karl's Grandma Rees, Aunt Sharla, and Aunt Ginnette. We saw a lot of old photos. We then made our way down to Jenny's house for little Gavin's second birthday party. We had some good cake. It was in the shape of a snake. After the kids went to bed Jenny, Tavis, Karl and Angela played "Fill or Bust" and "Sequence." The ladies really did well on both games. To quote Jenny, "We thrashed them."
