It's a boy. And not ours.
The biggest happening of the week was Karl's brother Chris and his wife Katie having their first baby late Thursday evening: Davin Alexander Rees. He was huge! 9 lbs and 22 inches or something. Poor Katie. We didn't get to see him on Thursday. But we went down to see them at the hospital on Saturday with Karl's parents and his brother Bryan. Little Davin (or Alex as Karl insists he will call him) was so cute! Don't worry, though. The "Oh, I want one too sensation didn't last very long." It was kind of weird to look at little Davin and realize that Chris and Katie were the parent's though. It kind of boggles Karl's mind that his little brother is in charge of raising a little baby now. It also boggles his mind that his mom and dad are now grandparents.
But that wasn't the only exciting thing that happened on Thursday. Shortly before Davin was born, we saw Star Wars Episode III. Now, up until a few months ago, Karl wasn't too excited about seeing it. He didn't like the first two at all. He thinks Lucas blew it big time. But as the reviews started coming in, he became more and more suspicious that maybe it was time Lucas redeemed himself. Sure enough, he did. We loved it. It was way better than the first two. But it was very sad, too. (Don't let your little kids see it). We decided to watch Episodes IV-VI this weekend just to remind ourselves that everything ended happily in the end. The thing we realized as we watched Episodes IV-VI, though, was they were still way better than Episode III. Oh well. We still recommend that everyone go see it. Except little kids.
Angela had a lot of fun Thursday, too. After working the first two days of the week and spending the third relaxing, she went into D.C. to see museums and meet a friend of her mom's, who actually missed their lunch, but made up for it with a guided tour of the National Museum of Art, where she works. Angela says it's the best way to do it, because she knew everything. Then she got to ride the train home with Karl. Friday, Angela went down to D.C. as well and saw the Constitution and other museums and stuff. She also got very wet because when it rains here in D.C., it rains hard.
Karl also got very wet Friday--it took until lunch for his pants to fully dry, and then they just got wet again when he went to lunch with some of the attorneys—it was a cool monthly meeting they had with the head of the Wireless Bureau at the FCC. Karl really likes this part of his job. What he doesn't like is the grunge work, which he did through a lot of the first part of this week. But he got some good assignments later in the week. He also got his first reviews, and so far everyone claims to be very impressed with his work. Hopefully that bodes well for future job opportunities. He's still not entirely sure what to think about being in lawyer in D.C., though. Sometimes its fun, but when the train's late for the third time in a week, and you don't get home until 8:00 and then you have to go to sleep two hours later, you start to wonder if it's worth it.
But fortunately, we did a lot of good cooking this week, which really helps after a long day. Angela made some yummy North Carolina BBQ and Karl made some delicious chicken enchiladas. We ate too much. Now Karl's fatter than a hippo chewing bubble-gum. And yet here we are, eating ice cream as we finish this letter and bid you all, "adieu!"
