Life in the District
This week was a good week for us. Angela did some telecommuting (Monday and Tuesday) and relaxing at Karl's parents. Angela drove Karl to and from the train station every day this week and she didn't get lost. (Yeah)! While not telecommuting Wednesday through Friday, Angela spent her time sleeping in, exercising, reading, walking, and going on a couple of adventures. She was able to make it to the grocery store, the dry cleaners, and Old Town Manassas. The drive to Old Town Manassas was the only real adventure. She printed a map from MapQuest and was on her way. The directions didn't quite work, but she was able to get there. She was hoping there would be a lot of stores, but it was mostly restaurants and other businesses. She left a hour later a little disappointed. Friday she went window shopping with Karl's mom. It was nice to get out of the house and get to know Karl's mother a little more. She also got some more information on Karl. HAHAHAHAHA! Don't you wish she told you?
Karl received a large project at work that kept him rather busy. He is reading expert witness reports and summarizing them for an upcoming trial. It's somewhat interesting, but after lunch it tends to put him asleep. On Tuesday, Karl found some people playing Frisbee near his work while he was out searching for a place to eat lunch. He decided to join them during his lunch hour on Thursday. He enjoyed it a lot, but he got very sore because it'd been a few weeks since he'd done anything besides sit on a chair in his office or on the train.
Friday night, we made the 2 hour drive to Karl's brother's house to see Chris and a very pregnant Katie. In the morning we had a great breakfast of pancakes and bacon. We both tried a coconut syrup and enjoyed it. (Angela hates coconut and so was surprised to like it). After the meal, we all headed into Charlottesville. We saw the University of Virginia and got free frosties at Wendy's because of that whole finger thing (we received two since Katie was pregnant; who knew you received that type of benefit?). Chris and Katie had a baptism to go to, so Karl and Angela waited on the lawn. After the baptism, we headed to a pizza place in the outdoor mall at Old Town Charlottesville (which ironically actually had a whole lot of fun shops). The pizza was great. There were so many great kinds to have. We split two kinds: avocado, feta cheese, and tomato; and artichoke, onion, and tomato. The first was the best. We then headed back to Chris and Katie's. We took a little walk down to a beach by the lake. The ladies chatted while the men played Frisbee. Then we came back, and a thunderstorm came in, so we looked on as we waited for dinner to cook. We also played the game "Scene-It," which you really shouldn't play if you don't watch a lot of movies. The dinner was delicious. Chris made a brisket with BBQ sauce, and Katie provided the coleslaw, grapes, and beans--all while being a week overdue. Then we headed back to Karl's parents at about 10 pm, and besides the thick fog and being pulled over for missing a headlight, it was a pretty normal drive.
Well, time for another week of 3 hour commutes.
