On Top of a Mountain

This week was refreshingly less eventful, especially the first park of the week. We continued our new running program. Karl played Frisbee one night, and watched the San Antonio Spurs embarrass him a lot in the NBA playoffs up until tonight, when they thankfully finally hit some big shots. We watched a few episodes of Mad About You. So nothing out of the ordinary until about Friday. And quite honestly, Friday wasn't too out of the ordinary either. Just checked out an apartment for Karl's sister, dropped by to see our friend Heather, ate all-you-can-eat pizza, and watched "The Work and the Glory."

Saturday, Karl "tricked" Angela into hiking up Loafer Mountain near Santaquin. It was Angela's first time on top of a mountain. It was exhausting, but fun and very beautiful. We won't tell the whole story here, but you can read about it and see pictures (not too many pictures, as we forgot to charge our batteries) at: http://www.karlrees.com/epiphainesthai/archives/2005/loafer_mountain_hike.jsp. Afterwards we grabbed a bite from El Azteca, went to CleanFlicks and rented "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," which was an unconventional, but very interesting and thought-provoking romance.

Sunday Angela had a much more enjoyable day at nursery. Then we went and visited with Karl's Grandma and Aunt Sharla again. Then we had dinner over at Angela's parents house again. It was very yummy and the steaks were huge. We almost came home with a little kid. We were joking with Angela's nephew, Gavin, who's 2, about taking him home to stay with us, and he got kind of excited about it and grabbed Angela's hand when it was time to go. We took him all the way to our car, and he didn't freak out or anything. He told us to close the car door and go. We had to promise him that he could come over some other time. It was very funny and cute.

Oh, Karl started his new internship last Monday. It's for a small patent law firm close to Sandy. It's a very different atmosphere—much more fly-by-night than the firm in D.C. He works in a small and hot corner of the server room, and they didn't even provide him a computer (that's what his laptop is for). He liked the atmosphere better in D.C., but he has to admit, they're definitely giving him more substantial assignments here. The only bad thing is that so far, he's gotten home later than he's supposed to every day and he also had to work on Friday (he was supposed to work 6 hour days 4 days a week, so he could use the rest of the time to study for the patent bar). Angela's workplace, meanwhile, is still in flux. Her co-worker became supervisor, and Angela's been training to take on some new responsibilities.

This week we're going to Austin again for Karl's grandparent's 50th anniversary. Should be a lot of fun. Y'all have a good week, now. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! And happy Summer Solstice, Karl's theoretically favorite day of the year.
