One year down, two to go
Karl finished his first year of law school this week. He had a nightmare of a final exam on Tuesday—the professor gave them only 65 minutes to write three essays rehashing the entire course to them. Then he turned in his final paper on Saturday. This meant he woke up on Saturday at the rather unusual time of 5 AM so he could work on the paper all day and turn it in at 5 PM. Of course, he took a two hour break to go play Frisbee. It was such beautiful weather outside. That was before the cold front moved in and got us all wet. Anyway, now he's done with school. He's spending the next week competing to earn a spot on the Law Review, then going to DC for a 5 week internship. Speaking of which, he got another unpaid (i.e. for school credit) internship. This one's for an IP firm in Sandy called Clayton Howarth & Cannon. He sent them his resume on Monday, had a lunch interview at Black Angus with them on Wednesday, and they called and asked him to come on board on Friday.
Angela had a bridal shower Thursday. Not for her, of course; she's married already. But for her friend Tina who's getting married to Ruston this upcoming Friday. We're excited that they're getting married. We went with them to a concert on Saturday, too. The concert was by the Orchestra at Temple Square, which actually is at Abravenal Hall because they're renovating the Tabernacle. They did three Concertos—one by Bach and one by Mozart and one that sounded really good by I don't remember who composed it. It was cool because first of all Tina's sister-in-law Suzi is in it (she was one of those that played at our wedding reception), and second of all because it featured an award winning 82 year old solo violinist who was just fantastic. Oh, and before the concert we went to a Mexican place called the Red Iguana—it's really popular. We showed up at 5:30 and still had a 30 minute wait. We had Mole, which we've decided is "interesting," but it was a cool restaurant.
What else did we do this week? Monday we celebrated Becky's birthday by eating all her chocolate chip cookie cake. Angela had Enrichment on Tuesday, and afterwards we went to our last institute class of the semester (Building an Eternal Marriage—it's been a really cool experience because the instructor is a marriage counselor and so he has all these interesting stories and "systems" for building relationships). Thursday we had a BBQ with all the first year students and their families. Friday night we hung out with Angela's sister Jenny and her husband Tavis and played Sequence (Angela and Jenny cheated, Karl claims) and Settlers.
This morning was rather interesting. Karl woke up and started making potato salad for dinner and realized about 5 minutes into boiling all our eggs for deviled eggs, Karl realized that the salad recipe called for 4 raw egg yolks. Luckily, the yolk is the last part to cook, so Karl was able to find four yolks. But then we had a blender accident, and then all the potato peels got stuck in the drain and then Karl's pants ripped, and all this caused us to be late for church and it was raining hard outside. But don't worry, the day got better. Karl took the sink apart and got it unclogged and then we had a fantastic dinner with Becky and Wayne—both the potato salad and the deviled eggs were excellent. And then we had a nice relaxing evening.
Have a fantastic week! Don't let Monday get you down.
