Silver Lake Hike
View of Silver Lake from a Snow Patch
When we got up American Fork Canyon this weekend and saw the back of Timpanogos we finally realized why the forest service strongly recommended we not hike it this weekend. There's still snow all over the place. I've never seen this much snow in July before. So we decided to hike up and see some snow. Well, our principle purpose was to see Silver Lake, but there was snow up there too.
After a while, we hopped in the back of Ruston and Tina's truck and drove 4 or 5 miles along a narrow and dusty mountain road to Silver Lake Flat. Then we started up what we had thought would be a 1.5 mile trail to Silver Lake, but we're pretty sure it was longer than that. It was pretty steep towards the end, but it was definitely the shortest hike we've done all summer. I even did it un sandals. It took us about an hour to get to the lake.
It was very beautiful up there. Lots of waterfalls. Clear blue water. There were 4 or 5 other groups up there, but it wasn't too crowded. There was also a large patch of snow that was pretty fun. We played around for a while, saw a couple of moose, had lunch, and then headed back down. Lotsa fun.
