Ward Campouts
This week was again full of the normal working, running, eating, and ultimate frisbee. But there were some out-of-the-ordinary activities this week. Thursday, Angela's brother Jason returned from his mission to Cambodia (and Thailand). He arrived about 4:20 pm. After saying our hellos and getting his luggage, we went to Angela's parents for dinner. Jason requested Papa Murphy's pizza so that is what we had, along with corn on the cob, and watermelon. It was yummy. Jason was very thoughtful and brought us back some traditional Cambodian clothes. Angela got a yellow shirt and teal skirt and Karl got a nice green shirt. We then spent the rest of the evening hearing about Jason's mission and playing games.
Friday night we were going to participate in the ward "campout." After discovering the camping site was basically a recently mowed field next to a whole bunch of new subdivisions in Lehi, we decided to just eat and visit with people. It was fun, and it was actually our first opportunity to socialize with the ward as a couple. Then we watched "Sleepless in Seattle."
Saturday was our first weekend without a hike in a long time. Instead, Angela played Ultimate with Karl. It was fun. Karl is trying to talk Angela into playing on his city-league ultimate team this fall. She's not sure whether she will or not. We cleaned around the house during the afternoon and watched "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" in the evening.
Today, Angela had a visiting teaching marathon. She visited three sisters and was visited later in the day. After a very rowdy day in nursery, it was nice to talk to adults is the ward. Karl spent his time working on the website and making a yummy Vietnamese dish. He hasn't tried cooking a lot of Vietnamese dishes since his mission, but we picked up some ingredients in Salt Lake (the nearest place to get good Vietnamese food) on Thursday and it actually worked semi-well.
Thought for the week
"The onion rings will take a little longer, could you wait in that parking spot and I'll bring them out."
(The words of an absent-minded teenaged KFC employee on a very hot afternoon yesterday, approximately 15 minutes prior to Karl's very cool-tempered talk with his manager).
